New Delhi: Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on Sunday announced the rollout of historic next-generation GST reforms, describing them as a major step towards strengthening India’s economy and empowering citizens.

In his address to citizens of India, on Sunday, Modi said the reforms, set to take effect from tomorrow, would mark the beginning of what he termed the “GST Bachat Utsav” (GST Saving Festival). “With the blessings of Maa Durga, India embarks on a new chapter of Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” he said.

Highlighting the impact of the reforms, Modi assured that the changes would bring relief to a large section of society, especially the middle class, farmers, women, and youth. “From tomorrow, your savings will increase, and you will be able to buy more of the things you like. This festive season, everyone will have something sweet to celebrate,” he added.

The announcement comes ahead of the festival season, with the government pitching the GST changes as a measure that will ease household expenses and boost consumption.
