Srinagar: Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday welcomed the recognition of a Palestinian state by Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and Portugal, calling it a “positive development” amid the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
In a statement, Mirwaiz said the decision came at a time when Palestinians have endured “unimaginable suffering,” yet the international community has largely remained unmoved.
He expressed hope that such steps would pave the way for a just and lasting solution. “This recognition should help bring relief and justice to the besieged Palestinians and revive efforts toward lasting peace in the region,” he said.
The Hurriyat leader urged more countries to “wake up to the injustice and genocide being committed upon Palestinians” and to acknowledge their rights over their land.
