BJP workers force Congress leader to wear saree over morphed Modi post

BJP workers intercepted senior Congress functionary Prakash Pagare, draping a saree around him over a morphed Modi post.

Thane: BJP workers allegedly forced a senior Congress functionary to wear a saree in public after he posted a morphed image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.

A video of the incident, which took place on Manpada Road in Dombivli, has since surfaced online.

BJP Kalyan president Nandu Parab and other party members intercepted 72-year-old Mama alias Prakash Pagare on Tuesday morning and draped a saree around him, saying it was a response to his attempt to “defame” the prime minister, PTI reported, quoting police sources.

“We made Mama Pagare wear a shalu (an expensive saree) on the street,” Parab said.

Pagare, however, alleged that the BJP workers slapped him, hurled casteist slurs, and humiliated him in public. He said he would pursue legal action against those involved under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, calling the incident an attack on his personal freedom.

Kalyan Congress president Sachin Pote condemned the act, terming it an “insult to all women” and an “uncivilised attack” on a senior leader. He demanded strict action against the BJP workers involved.
