Rishikesh: Authorities in Uttarakhand’s Rajaji Tiger Reserve have sealed a decades-old mosque located in the Ramgarh Range by the Forest Department and police.
Ramgarh Range Forest Officer Ajay Dhyani said the mosque, built on 0.0008 hectares of forest land in the Asha Rodi beat, was sealed in line with a Supreme Court directive issued on September 3.
He explained that the apex court order bars any human activity inside the sanctuary. Following the sealing, a warning board was placed outside the mosque, cautioning that violators would face legal action under forest laws.
Officials said that after the Forest Department raised objections to the mosque’s presence, some individuals had approached the Supreme Court. However, the government argued that the structure stood on protected land within the sanctuary, where all human activities are legally prohibited.
