Mirwaiz expresses grief over demise of former Islamia School principal Hirdey Nath Koul

Srinagar: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of noted educationist Hirdey Nath Koul. Koul, former Principal of Islamia School, Rajouri Kadal, Srinagar, Kashmir, passed away recently.

In a post on X, Mirwaiz said Koul’s contribution in nurturing generations of students with dedication and commitment will always be remembered and respected.

Highlighting the legacy of Kashmiri Pandit teachers in schools run by Anjuman Nusratul Islam, Mirwaiz recalled how they even marked attendance for Muslim boys at afternoon prayers in Jama Masjid, terming it a testament to the shared values and strong bonds between communities.

“Their role in shaping our society and their immense contribution to education will always be remembered and honoured,” he said, while extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

Born in Banamohalla, Habbakadal, Koul later settled in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, but remained deeply connected to the Valley. He carried with him the rich traditions of Kashmiri Pandit scholarship, discipline, and service.

As a school principal, Koul was admired equally by colleagues, parents, and pupils for his discipline, kindness, and sense of duty. His classrooms were not merely spaces of academic instruction but also places where values of honesty, hard work, and respect were instilled.
