Srinagar: Four days after the house of alleged Red Fort bomber Umar Nabi was demolished in Pulwama, BJP leader Arshad Ahmad Bhat said that “demolitions or blasts are not the solution” and called for “stricter, more effective measures” against terrorism.

Bhat, a former BJP candidate from Rajpora, said families should not be punished for the actions of one member, The Indian Express reported.

“A father of a terrorist cannot be called a terrorist,” he said, adding that Kashmiris live in a “complex situation”.

“Let us put an end to this demolition and blast policy and instead adopt stricter, more effective measures to deal with terrorism,” Bhat said in a social media post.

Umar’s two-storey family home in Koil was blown up on November 14 after officials evacuated the residents.

The action followed the November 10 blast near the Red Fort Metro station in Delhi that killed 12 people.

DNA samples from Umar’s mother confirmed he was driving the explosive-laden car, officials told The Indian Express.
