Cheating and stolen gold racket busted in Srinagar; main accused arrested in Punjab

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Police have cracked a major cheating and stolen gold racket with the arrest of a notorious fraudster wanted in multiple cases across the Valley.

Police said Asmat Jan, also known as Taboo, was traced to Jalandhar in Punjab and taken into custody by a team from Police Station Lal Bazar after sustained efforts carried out under the supervision of the SDPO and the Zonal SP.

According to Srinagar police officials, Asmat Jan had been evading arrest for several cheating cases registered in different parts of Kashmir.

Two of her associates — goldsmith Shameem Ahmad Sheikh and Basir Ahmad Dar — have also been arrested for allegedly receiving, transporting, and disposing of stolen gold linked to the racket.

Police said further investigation is underway and more arrests or recoveries are likely.
