Srinagar: Police across multiple districts in Kashmir on Friday conducted coordinated inspection drives in hospitals and medical colleges, focusing on lockers and storage areas used by doctors, students and staff as part of heightened security and accountability measures in the health sector.
In Srinagar, police teams—working with Health Department officials—inspected lockers at district and private hospitals, medical colleges, PHCs and other health facilities. According to a police statement, the checks aimed to prevent the unauthorized storage of illegal or hazardous materials and to reinforce internal security. Staff were reminded to maintain proper records and use lockers strictly for official purposes.
Srinagar Police said such inspections will continue as part of routine vigilance and reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety.
In Handwara, police carried out an extensive inspection drive at Government Medical College Handwara on the directions of SSP Handwara and in coordination with the district administration.
Multiple sections of the college were examined, with emphasis on student and staff lockers to ensure institutional protocols are being followed and facilities are not misused. The Tehsildar Handwara and Station House Officer Handwara supervised the checks.
Authorities said periodic inspections will remain part of ongoing security and administrative measures. The drive aligns with similar verification checks recently conducted across hospitals in the Valley.
In Ganderbal, police conducted surprise inspections of lockers used by doctors and hospital staff in coordination with hospital administrations. Officials said the initiative aims to curb misuse of hospital spaces, strengthen discipline and uphold security protocols.
Police teams also interacted with medical and paramedical staff, advising them to maintain secure workspaces, report suspicious behaviour and ensure hospital premises are not misused in any form.
Ganderbal Police said the checks will continue as part of efforts to safeguard public institutions and maintain a safe environment for patients, attendants and healthcare workers.
Authorities across all three districts have emphasised that these inspection drives will remain ongoing as part of the broader security review of health institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.
