Srinagar: A day after a bear was spotted inside the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) premises, the administration has intensified surveillance and activated additional safety measures across the campus.
Officials said the late-night sighting was first confirmed through CCTV footage that showed the animal moving inside the institute grounds. The Wildlife Department was immediately alerted, following which a response team reached the spot.
As part of precautionary steps, the administration carried out fresh inspections in the hostel and residential zones and directed security personnel to increase patrolling, especially in less-frequented stretches of the campus. “Additional patrolling has been ordered as a precautionary measure,” an official said.
Wildlife authorities have since placed a bear trap near the hostel area to safely capture and relocate the animal. Officials said monitoring will continue until the situation is fully resolved.
Students, staff and attendants have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid isolated areas after dark and report any unusual movement without delay.
