Shopian: The police solved a livestock theft case in Shopian within 24 hours, arresting three men and recovering the stolen animals, officials said Wednesday.
Police said a case was registered at Police Station Shopian after a written complaint from Mohd Yaqoob Dar of Pinjoora, who reported that unknown thieves had stolen two cows, one calf and four sheep.
A special team was formed, and through surveillance, technical analysis and sustained investigation, officers traced the suspects as they were traveling toward Rajouri via Mughal Road, police said.
The three accused — Mohd Ashraf Khatana of Khawas Gund Rajouri, currently residing at Padshah Chowk; Arshid Ahmad Khatana of Kanala Khawas Rajouri, currently residing at Padshabagh Srinagar; and Amjad Hussain Khatana of Kanla Khawas Rajouri, also residing at Padshabagh Srinagar — were intercepted and arrested. They remain in custody.
Police recovered the stolen animals from a vehicle bearing registration number JK04E-8856, which was also seized.
