Anantnag: A day after a leopard mauled a 5-year-old girl to death in Bijbhera area of Anantnag district, residents appealed to the administration to strengthen safety measures to prevent such incidents.
The child, daughter of Riyaz Ahmad Paswal and a resident of Khiram Gujjar Basti in Galan area of Bijbhera, was attacked near her village on Wednesday evening, officials said.
Soon after the incident, local authorities and officials from the Wildlife Department rushed to the spot and launched a search operation to track and capture the animal.
The killing triggered grief and fear among residents, who urged the administration to step up monitoring and take effective preventive steps to ensure public safety.
Wild animal attacks were also reported from north Kashmir’s Kupwara and baramulla districts.
