Sheikh Faisal bin Abdul Malik Nauman, a senior muazzin (caller to prayer) at Masjid Al-Nabawi, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2025.
The Presidency of Religious Affairs at the Prophet’s Mosque confirmed his death and expressed condolences to his family, colleagues and the wider Muslim community.
Sheikh Nauman served for decades at the Prophet’s Mosque, witnessing several major expansions and calling the adhan during historic moments, including Ramadan night prayers attended by millions of worshippers from across the world.
Funeral prayers were held at Masjid An-Nabawi after the Fajr prayer, followed by his burial at the Al-Baqi cemetery in Medina.
Several prominent Islamic scholars and religious figures attended the funeral prayers, including Sheikh Muhammad Barhajji, Sheikh Abdullah Al Hunainy, Sheikh Saud Bukhari, Sheikh Muhammad Hakim, Sheikh Anas Sharif, Sheikh Adil Katib, Sheikh Muhammad Qassas, Sheikh Hasan Khashuqji, Sheikh Iyaad Shukri, Sheikh Ahmad Al Ansari and Sheikh Ahmad Afifi.
Sheikh Faisal Nauman was appointed muadhin of Masjid An-Nabawi in 2001 (1422 AH). He belonged to a family with a long-standing tradition of serving the adhan at the Prophet’s Mosque spanning multiple generations.
His grandfather served as a muadhin at the mosque, while his father was appointed to the role at the age of 14 and continued calling believers to prayer for decades until his death after the age of 90.
Sheikh Nauman served the Prophet’s Mosque for 25 years with devotion and humility, from 1422 to 1447 AH (2001–2025), leaving behind a legacy of sacred service.
