A Pakistani court has extended the interim bail of former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in cases linked to the May 9, 2023, violence and several other matters.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka heard the pre-arrest bail applications on Tuesday and extended the interim relief till January 27, directing Khan to appear at the next hearing either in person or via video link, Dawn reported.
Apart from the May 9 cases, Khan faces multiple other charges, including attempted murder and submission of alleged fake receipts. Separate cases related to Toshakhana gifts have also been registered against Bushra Bibi.
In a separate hearing, Additional District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Amir Zia also extended Bushra Bibi’s interim bail in another case registered under the Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act.
The May 9 cases stem from widespread vandalism by Khan’s supporters following his arrest in Islamabad in 2023. Khan, who has been in jail since August 2023, faces several cases filed after his removal from office in April 2022. He and Bushra Bibi have been sentenced in multiple corruption cases, including the Toshakhana matter.
