Light snowfall likely in parts of Kashmir as western disturbance approaches
Srinagar: Kashmir is likely to witness light to moderate snowfall over the next few days as a fresh western disturbance approaches the region, while mostly dry conditions are expected to return from early January, weather forecasters said.
According to forecast insights, December 29 is expected to remain largely dry and cloudy across Jammu and Kashmir, with very light snowfall possible over higher reaches along the Zojila–Drass axis.
On December 30, a new western disturbance is likely to affect the region, bringing light to moderate snowfall, mainly across the Kashmir Valley. Weather activity is expected to intensify from the afternoon and continue into the early hours of the next day. There is a 40% chance of light snowfall over the plains if precipitation persists overnight, though models currently indicate limited support for widespread snow in lower areas.
Cloudy conditions are forecast to continue on December 31 and January 1, with intermittent light to moderate rain or snow across the Union Territory. While the system is expected to remain weak and significant accumulation over the plains is unlikely, falling temperatures could improve snowfall prospects, making light snow possible in a few low-lying areas. The situation remains under monitoring.
From January 2 to January 5, the region is expected to experience dry weather, offering temporary relief from precipitation, forecasters said.
