Patna: Ayush doctor Nusrat Parveen, whose hijab was forcefully removed last month by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during an appointment letter distribution ceremony, joined service on Wednesday, officials said.
Government Tibbi College and Hospital principal Mahfoozur Rahman told PTI that Parveen reported for duty on the final day of the extended joining period.
“Today was the last date, and Nusrat reported at the Patna Civil Surgeon’s office. She will be posted appropriately by the civil surgeon,” Rahman said.
The deadline for joining had been extended twice — first until December 31 and later till January 7, he added. Parveen is an alumna of the Government Tibbi College and Hospital.
Earlier media reports had claimed that Parveen was reluctant to join due to resentment over the incident, a suggestion the college administration had denied. Rahman said Parveen continued to visit the college and remained in touch with faculty members.
Last month, after she missed the initial deadline, Rahman had said her family wanted to avoid media attention and that she would take time to reconsider joining.
