Bangladesh skipper unsure of T20 World Cup participation amid India standoff

Dhaka: Bangladesh captain Litton Das has expressed uncertainty over his team’s participation in next month’s T20 World Cup as the standoff continues over Bangladesh’s refusal to play matches in India.

Bangladesh have declined to tour India, citing security concerns following pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s removal from the IPL on BCCI directions. Bilateral ties have also been strained amid recent attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh.

Speaking to ESPNcricinfo after Rangpur Riders’ exit from the Bangladesh Premier League on Tuesday, Das said clarity over venues and opponents would have helped ease the situation.

“We have announced the squad, but the players still don’t know which country we are going to or who we will face. Like me, the entire country is uncertain right now,” he said.

Bangladesh have sought to have their matches shifted to Sri Lanka. When asked directly about World Cup participation, Das questioned whether it was even confirmed.

“Are you sure we are going to the World Cup? There is still time, and at this point, we don’t even know if we will go or not,” he said.

Das avoided commenting on the political tensions between the two countries but said the players would accept whatever decision the cricket board takes.

“Not everything in life is ideal. You have to adjust to the situation. Playing so many matches in the BPL wasn’t ideal either, but we still had to do it,” he said.
