Srinagar: Life across Kashmir largely returned to normal after last week’s first major snowfall of the season, even as another Western Disturbance is expected to affect Jammu and Kashmir in the coming days.

The new Western Disturbance is expected to impact Jammu and Kashmir from Monday evening, bringing sharply different weather conditions across the plains, higher reaches and parts of south Kashmir.

Officials said the system is relatively weak but active enough to cause moderate to locally heavy snowfall in higher altitudes.

In the plains, precipitation is likely to start at night, with a chance of snowfall, though prolonged accumulation is not expected. North and central Kashmir plains are expected to have lower chances of dry snow, estimated at around 30 to 40%. However, the south Kashmir districts, particularly Shopian and Kulgam, especially areas closer to the Pir Panjal range, are likely to fare better, with dry snow probability assessed at around 60 to 70%, increasing the likelihood of moderate accumulation.

Snowfall is also likely in the Chenab Valley, Poonch district, and along the Qazigund to Banihal stretch, while most remaining areas are expected to receive rainfall during the weather spell.

The last snow spell, which ended a prolonged dry period, had disrupted power supply and road connectivity across several districts.

Strong winds and heavy snowfall damaged power infrastructure, leaving many areas without electricity.

Restoration work was taken up immediately, with teams repairing damaged feeders, clearing fallen trees and restoring supply in phases.
