New Delhi: Finance Minister of India Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey 2025-26 in Parliament today (January 29). The document has been prepared by the Finance Ministry’s Department of Economic Affairs under the guidance of the Chief Economic Advisor. The Economic Survey provides a comprehensive review of the country’s current economic situation and future outlook.
The GoI Budget 2026-27 will be presented on Sunday. The first phase of the Budget Session will be held until the 13th of next month, while the second phase will take place from the 9th of March to the 2nd of April. In all, there will be 30 sittings during the Budget Session.
The Economic Survey is likely to be presented between 11 am and noon, followed by a press briefing by Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran. The GoI Budget 2026 is scheduled to be tabled on Sunday, February 1.
Compiled by the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance, the Survey assesses the performance of the Indian economy over the last financial year and provides projections for the year ahead.
The document typically highlights trends in GDP growth, inflation and monetary policy, the government’s fiscal position, and the state of the external sector, including exports, imports and foreign exchange reserves. It also examines social indicators such as employment, health and education, along with special sections on emerging economic issues.
Investors and analysts closely track the Survey’s views on global uncertainties, fiscal discipline and sector-wise performance, as these shape market sentiment across equities, bonds and currencies. Though not binding on policy, the Survey often frames the broader economic narrative ahead of the Budget.
