Netanyahu, Trump discuss Iran talks, Gaza and regional issues, stress upon close coordination

US president Donald Trump with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu raised Israel’s “security needs” during a meeting with US President Donald Trump, with discussions centering on Iran negotiations, Gaza and broader regional issues, Netanyahu’s office said Wednesday.

In a statement posted on X after the closed-door talks, Netanyahu’s office said the prime minister underscored Israel’s security concerns in the context of ongoing diplomatic efforts and that both leaders agreed to maintain close coordination and regular contact.

Trump earlier described the meeting as “very good,” saying he pressed for continued negotiations with Iran “to see whether or not a deal can be consummated,” but noted that no firm decisions emerged from the talks.

According to the Israeli statement, the two leaders also reviewed the situation in Gaza and wider regional developments.

The meeting comes amid renewed diplomatic outreach between Washington and Tehran following indirect talks in Oman last week — the first such engagement since the US strikes targeted Iranian nuclear facilities in June. Further rounds of negotiations are expected, though no schedule has been announced.

Before leaving for Washington, Netanyahu said he planned to outline Israel’s position on the key principles of any potential agreement with Iran.
