Kishtwar: A military operation against militants is underway in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district, officials said on Sunday.
A joint cordon and search operation was launched by the Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the forested region following specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants, officials said.
“As the armed forces were cordoning the area, the hiding militants opened fire on them, which was retaliated, triggering the operation,” a police official told news agency Kashmir News Service.
Officials confirmed that additional reinforcements have been rushed to the spot to strengthen the cordon and thwart any attempt by the militants to flee.
The exchange of fire was underway when the last reports came in. Further details are awaited. (KNS)
