Jammu: Senior BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, Sunil Sharma, has defended the Deputy Commissioner’s recent order in Kishtwar district, asserting it was issued following specific inputs from local residents regarding the misuse of funds.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service outside the Assembly, Sharma alleged that certain persons in the Kishtwar region were collecting money in the form of Zakat and donations and utilising the funds for “wrong activities, subversion, and anti-national activities.”
“He (the Imam) represents the Muslim community of Kishtwar. Yesterday, he said that the Deputy Commissioner’s order is welcome. We welcome it,” Sharma said.
The LoP clarified that the administration’s action was a direct response to complaints from the local populace. “On their complaint, on their input, the Deputy Commissioner issued an order. So some people were hurt here,” he added.
Taking a swipe at those criticising the order, Sharma said persons unaware of the ground situation, demography, and geography of Kishtwar should not comment on the matter.
“Those who do not know Kishtwar, do not know the situation there, do not know the demography there, do not know the geography—they are complaining from here that this is unfortunate,” the BJP leader stated. (KNS)
