Pilibhit: Police in Pilibhit city of Uttar Pradesh have booked a man for allegedly attempting to disturb communal harmony by sharing a purportedly morphed and objectionable image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media, officials said Monday.
Station House Officer Pradeep Vishnoi said the case was registered at Jehanabad police station following a complaint by sub-inspector Gyan Chand. The accused, identified as Arbaaz, is a resident of Vishen village.
Police said Arbaaz allegedly uploaded an edited photograph of the prime minister on Instagram, portraying him in Muslim attire. Based on the complaint, authorities registered a case on Monday.
Investigators suspect the post was intended to incite hostility and promote discord among different communities and groups. Further inquiry into the matter is underway.
