LG Sinha chairs high-level meet in Srinagar to review security scenario

Srinagar: Lt Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting at Lok Bhavan, Srinagar, to review the prevailing security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir following protests over the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In a post on X, the Office of LG said that the in-depth deliberations were attended by Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, GoC-in-C Northern Command; Nalin Prabhat, DGP J&K; Lt Gen Prashant Srivastava, GoC 15 Corps; and Maj Gen Balbir Singh, MGGS, Northern Command.

The meeting, it said, focused on assessing the current situation and enhancing coordination among security agencies.

Earlier, protests were reported in parts of Kashmir following reports of the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Groups of people had gathered in several areas, raising slogans and expressing grief. In some places, authorities increased deployment to prevent any escalation and to maintain public order.

Officials said the situation was being closely monitored. While most gatherings remained peaceful, police urged residents to maintain calm and refrain from any activities that could disturb law and order.
