Mehbooba Mufti burns posters of Benjamin Netanyahu, Jeffrey Epstein and Donald Trump during a protest in Srinagar on Wednesday, amid escalating US-Iran tensions.

Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday burned posters of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Jeffrey Epstein and former US President Donald Trump during a protest.

Addressing supporters, Mufti said the act was a mark of opposition to policies and actions she alleged were contributing to global unrest.

“I stand in peace with those who stand in peace with you, and in opposition to those who oppose you, until the Day of Judgment,” she said.

The protest was held amid heightened global tensions following the escalation of the US-Iran conflict. No untoward incident was reported during the demonstration.

The United States and Israel launched coordinated air and missile strikes on Iran on February 28, 2026, targeting military sites and infrastructure across major Iranian cities, including Tehran. The joint offensive, described by Western officials as aimed at crippling Iran’s missile capabilities and other strategic assets.

In the early phase of the campaign, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during the strikes, a dramatic development that has intensified national mourning in Iran and stirred fierce rhetoric from Tehran.

Iran has responded with waves of missile and drone attacks on US and allied bases across the Gulf region, targeting assets in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and other states hosting American forces. Explosions have also been reported in Arab states’ territories and near key locations such as the US Embassy in Riyadh.

The Pentagon confirmed that American troops have been killed in the conflict, including service members struck at a US facility in Kuwait — highlighting the direct toll on US forces.

Major global powers like Russia and China have publicly criticised the attacks on Iran and urged restraint, even as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate struggle to gain traction.

Widespread protests have erupted across several countries following the escalation of the US-Israel war on Iran and the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Demonstrations have been held in cities across the United States, Europe, West Asia and South Asia, with protesters condemning the military strikes and calling for an immediate ceasefire.

Anti-war rallies were reported outside US and Israeli diplomatic missions, while large gatherings in countries such as India, Pakistan, Turkey, Greece and Venezuela saw participants chanting slogans and burning flags in protest against the conflict.
