Srinagar: Me & K, led by Kadri Mujtaba, extends its heartfelt congratulations to the department of handicrafts and handloom, Jammu and Kashmir, under the leadership of commissioner secretary Vikramjit Singh (IAS) and director Masrat-ul-Islam, on the commissioning of the Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) machine at the Craft Development Institute (CDI), Srinagar.

This move marks a transformative step in strengthening the authenticity, quality assurance, and global credibility of Kashmir’s finest textile heritage, particularly Pashmina.

The introduction of SEM-based testing will enable highly precise fiber analysis, allowing for accurate differentiation between genuine Pashmina and other fibers. This will not only safeguard the integrity of Pashmina but also protect artisans, traders, and consumers from misrepresentation and counterfeit products.

For artisans, this initiative is especially impactful. By ensuring scientific validation of their work, it reinforces trust in their craftsmanship and helps them command fair value in both domestic and international markets. It also promotes standardization and quality benchmarking, which are essential for sustaining and expanding Kashmir’s presence in the global luxury textile segment.

Kadri Mujtaba, on behalf of Me & K, stated: “This is a landmark development for the Pashmina ecosystem. The commissioning of the SEM machine reflects a forward-thinking approach by the department, blending tradition with advanced technology. It will empower artisans, enhance transparency, and elevate the global positioning of authentic Kashmiri Pashmina.”

Me & K acknowledges and appreciates the continued efforts of the department in preserving and promoting the rich legacy of Kashmiri handicrafts while embracing innovation to meet modern standards.
