US President Donald Trump on Monday warned that Iran’s energy facilities and key infrastructure, including desalination plants, could face extensive damage if a deal to end the conflict with Iran is not reached soon.
In an interview with the New York Post, Trump said Washington is engaging with Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf. However, Qalibaf has denied any direct talks, stating that discussions allegedly facilitated by Pakistan were a cover for US troop movements.
Meanwhile, Israel has launched a ground operation in southern Lebanon targeting Iran-backed Hezbollah fighters, who have continued cross-border attacks using rockets and drones. Israeli officials indicated the operation could turn into a prolonged presence in the region.
Three United Nations peacekeepers were killed in southern Lebanon within 24 hours in two separate incidents, though responsibility remains unclear. Israel said it is reviewing the circumstances, noting the deaths occurred in an active combat zone.
Global markets showed signs of volatility, with US stocks inching higher amid rising oil prices driven by uncertainty over the duration of the conflict.
In a separate development, a drone strike hit a Kuwaiti oil tanker off Dubai’s coast, sparking a fire. Authorities confirmed all 24 crew members were safe, and no injuries were reported. The vessel was located about 31 nautical miles northwest of the city when it was struck by an unidentified projectile.
In Dubai, falling debris from an air defense interception caused a fire in a residential area, injuring four people. Authorities in Bahrain also activated warning sirens.
Saudi Arabia said it intercepted three ballistic missiles targeting its capital, Riyadh.
Behind the scenes, Gulf allies — including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Bahrain — are urging Washington to sustain military pressure on Iran. Officials said these countries want the campaign to continue until there is a significant shift in Tehran’s leadership or behaviour, with the UAE reportedly pushing for stronger action, including the possibility of a ground offensive.
