Srinagar: Waheed ur Rehman Para on Tuesday raised concerns in the Assembly over rising unemployment in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the rate has reached 32%.

He said more than 30,000 government posts remain vacant and called for a time-bound recruitment process along with a transparent hiring policy.

Para also flagged complaints of examination paper leaks, urging the government to address the issue to restore trust among job aspirants.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the government is determined to fill 25,000 vacancies this year.

Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said the government is firm in its resolve to fill 25000 vacancies during the year.

“This matter has been discussed several times during this session, including during the discussions on the LG’s speech, the budget, and grants,” he said while responding to questions from MLA Pulwama Waheed-ur-Rehman Para.

The Chief Minister said that the government is keen to ensure the recruitment process remains transparent and time-bound.

“Time-bound does not mean that the process should be conducted in a hurried manner, which could result in the matter reaching the courts and the process being halted,” he said.

He further said, “We have seen several selection lists being framed and then challenged in the courts. In many cases, it took a long time to resolve the matter, and applicants became overage and could not be recruited. We want to maintain a balance in this matter.”
