NHM employees stage 48-hr sit-in across JK over pending demands
Srinagar: Scores of employees working under the National Health Mission (NHM) in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday began a 48-hour sit-in at several locations across the union territory to press for their long-pending demands, including pay revision and job security.
The protesting employees, who gathered at district headquarters and major towns in both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions, reiterated their demands for immediate revision of salaries in line with other states, a secure job policy, and the implementation of social security benefits such as EPF, ESI, insurance, and post-retirement support.
According to the protesters, despite repeated assurances from the administration, no concrete progress has been made on their demands, forcing them to resort to the protest.
“NHM employees have been at the forefront of healthcare delivery, particularly during emergencies, but continue to face uncertainty over wages and job security. Our protest is taking place simultaneously across Jammu and Kashmir today,” a representative of the agitating staff said.
The association had announced the 48-hour sit-in across the union territory from today. The protesters warned that failure to address their concerns may lead to an escalation of their agitation in the coming days. (KNS)
