Iran says US talks cannot happen under ‘coercion’ after Trump warns of renewed strikes

Donald Trump.

Iran said negotiations with the United States cannot take place under “coercion” after US President Donald Trump warned Tehran that military strikes could resume if it failed to accept conditions tied to a ceasefire.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said diplomacy must be conducted in “good faith” and rejected pressure tactics in negotiations.

In a post on X, Baqaei cited a 2011 International Court of Justice ruling, saying negotiations require “a genuine attempt to engage in discussions with a view to resolving the dispute.”

He added that negotiations should not amount to “dictation, deception, extortion or coercion.”

The remarks came after Trump said Washington’s “Operation Epic Fury” and a blockade linked to the Strait of Hormuz would end if Iran “plays ball.”

Trump also warned that military operations would resume if Tehran refused the proposed ceasefire conditions.

The latest exchange comes amid fragile US-Iran negotiations following weeks of conflict linked to the Strait of Hormuz crisis and Washington’s “Operation Epic Fury.”

President Donald Trump has warned Tehran that military strikes could resume if it rejects a proposed ceasefire framework tied to reopening the Strait of Hormuz and limiting Iran’s nuclear activities.

The tensions have disrupted global oil supplies, triggered volatility in crude prices and drawn diplomatic involvement from countries including China, France and Pakistan
