Israeli strikes kill three in Gaza, testing fragile ceasefire; death toll mounts to 75,000

Israel has killed more than 75,000 Palestinians so far and the attacks continue despite ceasefire

Israeli airstrikes killed at least three Palestinians in Gaza on May 10, including two members of the Hamas-run police force, according to Palestinian health officials, in violence that underscored the fragility of a US-brokered ceasefire.

Medics said one person was killed and two others were wounded in an Israeli strike on the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.

In a separate strike in Khan Younis, Gaza’s Hamas-run Interior Ministry said Wessam Abdel-Hadi, head of the criminal police force, and his aide were killed when their vehicle was targeted.

The Israeli military said it struck two militants engaged in “suspicious” activity near Israeli forces in central Gaza, posing what it described as an immediate threat.

It said the strike in southern Gaza targeted members of Hamas’s elite force who were working to “advance imminent attacks” against Israeli troops.

Violence has persisted despite a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025.

Palestinian medics say at least 850 people have been killed in Gaza since the truce began, while Israel says four of its soldiers have been killed during the same period. Both sides have repeatedly accused each other of violating the agreement.

Reuters has previously reported that Israel has stepped up attacks on Gaza’s police force, which Hamas has used to reassert administrative control in parts of the enclave.

One mourner at the funeral in Khan Younis accused Israel of targeting police officers to create instability.

“Although the ceasefire came into effect several months ago, the occupation continues to target the police officers to cause chaos,” Ali Mousa told Reuters.

More than 72,500 Palestinians have been killed since the war began in October 2023, according to Gaza health authorities.
