Srinagar: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast a change in weather across Jammu and Kashmir, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms expected at many places between July 1 and 5.
According to the forecast, June 30 will remain generally hot and dry until the afternoon, with light rain or thundershowers likely at a few places later in the day and at many places during the night and early morning. Pre-monsoon showers are also expected over the plains of Jammu and adjoining areas during the next 24 to 48 hours.
Between July 2 and 4, a few places are likely to witness heavy rainfall, brief intense showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds. From July 6 to 8, the weather is expected to remain hot and humid, with scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers.
The weather office has advised people to remain cautious as heatwave or heatwave-like conditions are expected to persist until June 30. It also warned that heavy rainfall could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides at a few places in the Jammu division and adjoining parts of south Kashmir.
The advisory urged people to avoid venturing near streams, nallas and landslide-prone areas. Temporary waterlogging is also expected in some low-lying areas on July 2 and 3.
