Trump calls Harry Kane a ‘Great Player’ after England reaches World Cup quarterfinals

Donald Trump.

United States President Donald Trump praised England captain Harry Kane after the striker inspired England to a dramatic 3-2 victory over co-hosts Mexico in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16, calling him a “GREAT player” in a post on Truth Social.

Kane scored from the penalty spot and provided an assist as England reached the quarterfinals despite playing with 10 men for much of the second half following Jarell Quansah’s red card. The victory also saw Jude Bellingham become the youngest player to make 10 FIFA World Cup appearances.

Mexico threatened an upset after pulling a goal back through Raúl Jiménez, but England withstood sustained late pressure to book a quarterfinal clash with Norway in Miami on July 11. The defeat ended Mexico’s bid to reach the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in 40 years.
