Cop shot dead in Anantnag; DGP reaches spot as search Op begins

Srinagar: A police constable was shot dead by an unknown terrorist in the busy Lal Chowk area of Anantnag town, triggering a massive security operation in the area, officials said.

The slain policeman has been identified as Constable Ashiq Hussain. He sustained critical injuries in the attack and was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Soon after the incident, security forces sealed the area and launched a large-scale search operation to track down the attackers. Additional reinforcements were rushed to strengthen the cordon.

Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat reached the scene to assess the situation and supervise the ongoing operation.(KNS).
