Ranchi: The indefinite sit-in by students and job aspirants at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium has entered its 12th day, piling pressure on the Hemant Soren government over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) recruitment examinations.
Amid the growing agitation, the state government has initiated talks with the protesting students while the CID has intensified its investigation into the alleged recruitment scam.
Ranchi Sub-Divisional Officer Kumar Rajat visited the protest site and conveyed the government’s willingness to hold discussions, asking the students to nominate representatives for formal talks. The state has also constituted a committee of ministers and officials to engage with the protesters.
However, the students have rejected closed-door negotiations, insisting that any discussions be conducted publicly in the presence of the media.
Their key demands include cancellation of the allegedly tainted JPSC and JSSC examinations, a CBI probe, and a judicial inquiry by retired High Court judges from outside Jharkhand.
Meanwhile, the CID has intensified its action against those allegedly involved in the recruitment scam. The agency recently arrested Rakshak Singh, an accountant with TDPL, and several others, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 20. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) is examining digital records, application logs and other evidence as part of the ongoing probe.
Despite the government’s outreach, the sit-in and hunger strike continue, with students warning of an Assembly gherao during the Monsoon Session unless their demands are addressed.
