Life-threatening flash flooding reported across Decatur County

On Wednesday, a flash flood warning remained in effect for Decatur County.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, several inches of rain have caused life-threatening flooding,

The warning was issued through 10 a.m. EDT Wednesday.

Between 3 and 6 inches of rain had fallen, with additional rainfall of 0.5 to 1.25 inches possible in the warned area, the National Weather Service said.

“Flash flooding is already occurring,” the weather service said.

The flooding poses a threat to creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. Communities expected to experience flooding include Greensburg, Adams, Milford, Millhousen, Letts, Newpoint and Burney.

The warning was classified as an observed flash flood with a “CONSIDERABLE” damage threat.

Officials urged motorists to avoid flooded roads.

“Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads,” the National Weather Service said, noting that most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
