Reasi: A 17-year-old boy was swept away by strong currents while crossing a nallah in the Malikote area of Chassana in Reasi district on Wednesday.

The incident occurred near Sanglikote when the boy slipped while crossing the Ommi Nallah and was carried away by the heavy flow of water.

Police, assisted by local residents, launched a search operation to trace him. The boy was identified as Nawaz Ahmad, son of Mohammad Sharif, a resident of Malikote.

The incident comes amid heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, which has led to a rise in water levels in several streams and nallahs. Authorities have repeatedly advised residents to avoid crossing swollen water bodies and to exercise caution near water channels during periods of intense rainfall.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
