Pakistan extends airspace ban on Indian aircraft till Sept 24

Pakistan airspace not allowed for Indian aircrafts.

Pakistan on Wednesday extended its airspace restrictions on Indian aircraft until September 24, according to the Pakistan Airports Authority.

Pakistan and India imposed reciprocal airspace restrictions on each other’s airlines following the Pahalgam terrorist attack in April 2025.

“Pakistan airspace not available for Indian-registered aircraft and aircraft operated or leased by Indian airlines/operators, including military flights,” said a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority.

The latest decision comes before the existing restrictions expire on Aug 23.

According to the NOTAM, the extension will come into effect at 10.15 am on Aug 23 and remain in force until 4.59 am on Sep 24.

According to a 2022 Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) document, the country’s airspace is divided into two flight information regions (FIRs), Karachi and Lahore. The NOTAM applies to both regions.

Pakistan has extended the ban every month since last year, resulting in financial difficulties for airlines and longer travel times for passengers.

India has also continued its reciprocal airspace ban on all Pakistani-registered aircraft, airlines and military flights as part of measures taken against Pakistan after the Pahalgam terrorist attack, which killed 26 people last year.

Both countries closed their respective airspace to each other’s airlines following the attack.
