Five militants have been killed and several more injured in a security operation in Pakistan’s Panjgur district of southwestern Balochistan, the country’s military has stated.

According to security sources cited by Pakistani media, the operation took place in an area called Killi Suran after security forces had obtained intelligence on the presence and movements of militants there.

During engagement with the suspects, they killed five and wounded several others, according to reports. However, the exact number of people injured remains unclear and the military’s account has not been independently verified.

“Operation Fitna al-Hindustan is part of our ongoing counter-terrorism campaign,” he said at a news conference. Balochistan has suffered a long-running separatist insurgency alongside various forms of militant violence.

“The military and Government categorise certain Baloch separatists under ‘Fitna al-Hindustan’ and allege support from India. India has denied this.”

Security operations have gone ahead across Balochistan in recent weeks as the country’s security forces chase armed groups in several districts. In particular, the district of Panjgur, on the Iranian border, has seen intelligence-based operations by security forces.

There was no further information on who else was involved in the incident. If there were injuries among those from the security forces who took part or other details of the most recent operation.
