Srinagar: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has urged US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor to review and withdraw Washington’s highest-level travel advisory against visiting Jammu and Kashmir.

In a post on X, Mehbooba said the US envoy should reconsider the advisory, arguing that it was having a significant impact on Kashmir’s tourism-dependent economy.

“For Kashmir, where thousands of families depend on tourism, the travel advisory on Kashmir is more than a warning, it is a wall between Kashmir and the world,” she said.

Mehbooba said withdrawing the advisory would send a strong message of confidence, encourage international tourists to return and provide relief to families whose livelihoods depend on the tourism sector.

The US State Department currently places Jammu and Kashmir under a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory, citing terrorism and civil unrest as reasons.

Tourism stakeholders in Kashmir have repeatedly urged Washington to reconsider the advisory, maintaining that the Valley is safe and peaceful for visitors and that the restrictions are hurting the region’s tourism industry and wider economy.
