Nepal police ordered the rescue team to move from some parts of the devastating floods near the Tibet border on Thursday. The report has come from parts near Tibet, saying that a debris-dammed lake upstream has already started overflowing, hence threatening to trigger further deadly waves.
The rescuers were temporarily withdrawn from the most affected Rasuwa district, as authorities are assessing the possible risk, as per Reuters. The residents living in the low-lying area are ordered to move to high ground.
A new threat follows the devastating floods earlier this week that ravaged communities along the Nepal-China border, killing and leaving many people missing. The flash flood originated due to a collapse which released a tremendous quantity of water, mud and debris through the valleys and destroyed many houses, roads, bridges and other structures there, the Associated Press reported.
Chinese authorities said earlier that a lake has formed due to the accumulation of landslide debris and has blocked the waterway near the border poses a critical risk for the region if the debris cannot control the damming water, further more if natural barrier breaks, writes Reuters.
The rescue teams, soldiers and helicopters were attempting to reach trapped victims and search for missing people, however, blocked roads and dangerous terrain have created major problems in rescue and helicopters cannot land because of unstable land.
Authorities were carefully monitoring the lake and adjacent rivers in critical areas where the rescue mission had already been temporarily put on hold.
