At least eight people, including three children, died and seven more were wounded by continued Russian attacks on Kyiv on Tuesday, the Kyiv City Military Administration said on its X handle, after missile and drone attacks tore through apartment and office blocks and other civilian sites. They said air raid alerts reverberated across the capital and the neighbouring region, setting off air raid alerts and damaging buildings.
Firefighters rushed to put out flames, rescue civilians trapped in several locations around the city and look for people on injured lists. Repeated air raid alarms disrupted travel and other life in the capital.
Tuesday’s attack follows several days of a high barrage of Russian jet-powered drones against Kyiv. The Pentagon warned that Russia was deploying weapons that can reach more sensitive parts of Ukraine’s defences. The newest victims raise the death toll to more than 30 in more than three days of relentless strikes that have pounded Kyiv and other targets in Ukraine.
Kyiv also called on Western allies on Wednesday to consider providing more complex and precise missile defence systems that better counter newer and faster aircraft and weapons.
Moscow denies that the Russian strikes are hitting civilian targets – its military maintains its aims are military installations – a claim the Kyiv government rejects.
Ukraine also made its strongest case yet to its allies for international action as Russia intensifies diplomatic activity and has been sending increased military shipments to the front lines, where its forces stand in place.
