Israeli airstrikes hit Qantara in southern Lebanon, media reports

Israeli warplanes hit Al-Qantara in the Marjayoun district in southern Lebanon on Wednesday, Lebanese media reported, as Israeli attacks continued in several areas of the country’s south.

Shafaq News reports Israeli fighter jets targeted Al-Qantara and Beit Yahoun in the Marjayoun district. Israeli artillery also shelled Mansouri in the Tyre district, while Nabatieh areas were targeted by more airstrikes, the report said.

No immediate reports of casualties from the most recent attacks were made, according to the report.

The strikes came as the Israeli military continued operations in southern Lebanon, including airstrikes, artillery fire and demolition operations. In recent days, Lebanese media has reported several Israeli detonations within and around Al-Qantara.

According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, powerful explosions in the Marjayoun district on Monday caused part of the Al-Qantara mountain to collapse.

L’Orient Today also reported that successive Israeli demolitions in Qantara had greatly altered the area, with residents and journalists denied access to the site, making it hard to assess the extent of damage independently.

The latest attacks come despite a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon that took effect in April and has since been extended with Israeli strikes continuing in southern Lebanon.
