Two policemen killed, two injured after colleague opens fire in Assam

Two Assam policemen were killed and two others injured after a colleague allegedly opened fire at a police outpost in Kamrup district early Thursday, local media reports said.

The shooting occurred at the Gamerimura Police Outpost in Boko, which is under the jurisdiction of Boko Police Station, during the night of Wednesday, Sept. 2, media reports said. The officer charged is accused of using an AK-47 service rifle in the incident.

The deceased have been identified as Indrajit Bora, officer in charge of the Gamerimura outpost and police personnel Fazrul Ali, reports said. Two other officers were also hit by gunfire and taken to a medical facility for treatment.

Media reports identified the accused policeman as Chiranjeev Choudhury. The immediate cause of the shooting and the motive were not clear.

Senior police officials have launched an investigation into the incident including the sequence of events and the circumstances leading to the use of the service weapon. As the investigation continued, further details were awaited.

The shooting incident occurred in the Boko police station area of Kamrup district, around 50 kilometres from Guwahati.
