India Under-19 player Rohit Yadav banned for two years over age discrepancy

India Under-19 leg-spinner Rohit Yadav has been banned for two years after the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) found discrepancies in his age-related documents, weeks after he was picked for the junior team’s upcoming series against Australia, Telegraph India reported.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has imposed the ban with immediate effect and the affiliated state associations have been communicated the decision. According to a BCCI source, “He has been banned for two years.”

Yadav, who represents Bengal and is originally from Uttar Pradesh, toured Sri Lanka with India’s Under-19 team in July. He took six wickets to help India win the final Youth Test. He was subsequently selected for the home series against Australia but will now miss the five one-day matches and two multi-day fixtures later this month.

His age difference came to light when his papers were examined. Reports said Yadav had different years of birth in his birth certificates and even records in his Aadhaar were inconsistent. Earlier the CAB had left him out of their junior teams and then informed the BCCI.

It’s part of a wider CAB crackdown with dozens of other players ruled ineligible over age and documentation discrepancies.
