After four straight sessions of losses, Indian equity markets sharply rallied in early trade Friday, with the Sensex surging over 530 points, tracking gains in Asian markets.
The BSE Sensex, with its 30 shares, rose 531.88 points or 0.70% to 76,684.74 in early trade. The broader NSE Nifty rose 78.25 points, or 0.33 per cent, to 23,951.70, as per the PTI.
The gains followed gains in Asian markets and a strong showing on Wall Street overnight. U. S. markets ended Thursday more than 1% higher, a positive cue for Asian equities.
Major Sensex gainers were Bajaj Finserv, Bharat Electronics, IndiGo, Trent, Reliance Industries, Infosys, Titan, Adani Ports, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HDFC Bank and State Bank of India. Axis Bank, Eternal, ICICI Bank and Asian Paints were among the underperformers.
Investors were cautious ahead of the release of US retail sales data, with Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, up 0.48% at $95.98 a barrel.
Foreign institutional investors offloaded shares worth Rs 2,345.87 crore while domestic institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 4,977.46 crore on Thursday.
