‘Rape and death of minor in Kishtwar’: Evidence, records, role of all persons being examined, says officials

Kishtwar: In the case of the alleged rape and subsequent death of a minor girl in Chatroo, Kishtwar, officials are examining the sequence of events, available evidence and records, as well as the alleged involvement of all persons connected with the case, to establish facts and determine responsibility in accordance with the law.

The development came as Inspector General of Police, Crime Branch J&K, Sarah Rizvi, along with senior police officials, visited Chatroo on September 3 to review the ongoing investigation.

The case was transferred to the Crime Branch following widespread public concern and demands for a thorough and impartial probe. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had also assured local representatives that the matter would be investigated comprehensively and justice ensured.

During the visit, the Crime Branch team reviewed the progress of the investigation and examined the circumstances surrounding the minor’s alleged sexual exploitation, pregnancy and subsequent death during medical treatment.

The case was registered at Police Station Chatroo under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and remains under investigation.

The Crime Branch said the probe is being conducted in a thorough, impartial and evidence-based manner, with all relevant aspects being examined.
