Trump bans CNN, MS NOW and Politico from White House over coverage

President Donald Trump said Friday that he was banning CNN, MSNBC, and Politico from the White House, accusing the three news organisations of reporting what he called “fake news” about his administration.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said the move would take effect immediately. He did not immediately say how the ban would be implemented or if it would apply to White House grounds, press credentials or specific events. Journalists from the three organisations remained on the White House grounds Friday afternoon, The Associated Press reported.

“I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW … and Politico … from the White House as a result of their constant ‘reporting’ FAKE NEWS!” Trump wrote.

When asked about the decision later in the Oval Office, Trump said the outlets “purposely write negative news” and suggested that other organisations could face similar restrictions. He called The New York Times and The Washington Post “fake news.”

CNN backed White House journalists and called the threatened ban an “illegal assault” on its constitutional rights. Politico said it will continue to cover the White House and defend its First Amendment rights.
