Israeli forces raid Biddu for second day, detain dozens, Palestinian officials say
Israeli forces continued an operation in the West Bank town of Biddu for a second day on Monday, detaining dozens of Palestinian men for questioning and carrying out searches of homes, Palestinian officials said.
At least 53 young men were being held at an interrogation centre set up inside a home seized during the raid, according to the Palestinian official news agency WAFA. The agency reported that homes were searched and some property was damaged, while several residents were assaulted.
Biddu Mayor Nazmi Mansour told The New Arab that Israeli forces entered the town around midnight and carried out arrests and field interrogations. He said dozens had been detained and hundreds of residents were questioned inside their homes, with the exact number of detainees still unclear.
The operation follows a deadly shooting near the West Bank settlement of Neve Tzuf on Sunday. Israeli authorities identified the suspected attacker as a resident of Biddu and said security forces were preparing wider arrest operations in the West Bank
