More than 100 displaced by flooding in Malaysia’s Janda Baik
On Sunday evening, heavy rain caused water levels to rise rapidly in the Kampung Janda Baik area of Bentong, Malaysia, displacing more than 100 people, local media reported.
Floodwaters entered houses in Kampung Cheringin Tengah due to the rain which began around 3.30 pm. Cosmo! Online reported later in the afternoon. One resident, Masrizal Sallehudin, said water came into his house within about 10 minutes.
“The rain was incredibly heavy, and the water rose too fast in just about 10 minutes,” Masrizal was quoted as saying.
A flood warning siren sounded and residents were told to move valuables to higher ground.
By Monday morning, 58 people from 21 families in Bentong were housed at a temporary evacuation centre at SK Janda Baik, Malaysia’s Radio Television Malaysia reported, citing the Social Welfare Department’s disaster information portal.
Heavy rain caused flooding in the area and the water has since receded leaving mud in homes that were affected.
