Realigning naka points key focus as IGP holds meeting with traffic, police and CRPF officials

Srinagar: Inspector General of Police Kashmir Sujit Kumar, IPS, chaired a security review and traffic management meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir on Monday, with officials reviewing the security grid in Srinagar city and measures to ease congestion at traffic choke points.

According to a handout issued by the police, the meeting was attended by DIG Traffic Jammu, DIG CKR Srinagar, DIG Traffic Kashmir, DIsG CRPF North and South Srinagar, DIG CRPF Operations Srinagar, SSP PCR Kashmir, SSP Traffic City Srinagar, SSP Srinagar and other senior officers.

The meeting also included the SO to IGP Kashmir, SSP CID SB (K), SSP CID CI (K), SP Cargo Srinagar and all zonal SPs of Srinagar City.

During the meeting, participating officers briefed the IGP Kashmir on the prevailing security situation in their respective jurisdictions. They also shared inputs and suggestions on existing arrangements, which were discussed to identify gaps and strengthen both security and traffic management.

The existing security grid across Srinagar city and the deployment of personnel were reviewed in detail. Particular emphasis was placed on realigning naka points wherever required to strengthen security coverage while reducing congestion at traffic choke points.

The officers discussed measures aimed at ensuring smoother vehicular movement without compromising the existing security arrangements.

IGP Kashmir directed officers to ensure effective implementation of security measures across intra-zone, inter-zone, inter-district and peripheral areas.

He also called for strengthening check posts at the entry and exit points of Srinagar city and stressed the need for close coordination and real-time sharing of information between the Traffic Police, District Police and naka points.

The coordination, he said, would help facilitate effective monitoring and enable a swift response whenever required.

Sujit Kumar further emphasised greater use of technology for traffic regulation, surveillance, coordination and information sharing, to make traffic and security arrangements more efficient.

The meeting concluded with the IGP Kashmir stressing the need for continuous review of arrangements, close coordination among agencies and professional implementation of security and traffic-management measures, while keeping public safety and minimising inconvenience to commuters as key priorities.
